The play centers on Yoav, a university literature lecturer. About 15 years before the play begins, Yoav had an affair with a student of his named Itai, an affair that ended after a few years, when Yoav removed Itai from his life. The plot of the first act of the play, structured as a tragedy, revolves around Itai's revenge on Yoav. Itai, who now teaches at the university where Yoav teaches, sends Elam, who is writing his doctoral thesis with Itai, to Yoav's seminar, entitled "Eros and Melancholia." Itai's goal is to make Yoav fall in love with Elam, which will cause Yoav to go insane and then die. The second act of the play is structured as a comedy. During a conversation between Yoav and his girlfriend Naomi, also a literature lecturer, discussions about sex and intra-university politics intertwine, in which issues such as the employment of relatives in academia and the central place of German culture in general, and the Holocaust in particular, in contemporary Israeli identity arise.
