The narrator in "Opportunity," Pablo Kachajian's fourth novella in Hebrew, discovers that he is bewitched – as he always knew. The spell prevents him from doing things, but perhaps the answer lies in his pocket – a note he received from a "dear but not close" friend containing the phone numbers of three witches. The trouble is, of course, that he also cannot choose. And as expected – or not expected – a story that begins with witches continues with more fantastic creatures, strange incidents and questionable truths, in Pablo Kachajian's unique, bewitched and bewitching prose. Although he identifies himself with the paralyzed hero of the novella, our narrator actually has no limits – he works with the "good" and "bad" materials of the art of fiction, and the mixing of elements, levels and styles – like an absurd blend of wines – provides an opportunity to create the ultimate book, the book of the future, the best.
