A journey, a journey. A general looting is carried out in Rome by the Vandals in the fifth century AD. We are led at a feverish pace to the poor Trastevere district. There, on the left bank of the Tiber River, live the Jews, preparing in the dead of night to recover the thing most precious to them: the seven-branched menorah. From here on, Zweig takes us hand in hand under the moonlight to accompany the Jews on their wandering journey in search of the holy menorah, in search of the spirit and in search of faith. We share in a folk tale, a long parable in quasi-biblical language about a faith that prefers the eternal over the temporal, the spiritual over the material. "But he who binds himself to the invisible is stronger than he who clings to the material, for the latter is transient, while the former endures forever." Zweig does what he knows how to do like a magic wand - reviving eras that have passed and been forgotten and bringing them back to consciousness and imagination. The story "The Hidden Menorah" manages to touch the heart of modern man thanks to the tradition and faith that have been forgotten from his heart.
